Staff BYOD Onboarding

Staff BYOD Onboarding

Introduction

Berkshire Hill's campus network is available to community members (faculty, staff, students, contractors) as well as the public (visitors/guests). All users and devices connected to our campus network are required to comply with the BHRSD-BYOD Wi-Fi ToS. Users are responsible for all activity associated with devices registered to their user account. Any non-BHRSD owned device is considered BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and subject to Berkshire Hill's BYOD terms of service. Circumventing or attempting to circumvent Berkshire Hill's network and security controls/policies is prohibited and may result in loss of access to the campus network and other systems.

BYOD Device Types and Requirements

  • Laptops running a full OS such as Windows, MacOS or ChromeOS
    • Operating system with up-to-date patches
    • For Windows: Antivirus software with up-to-date client/definitions
  • Phones, tablets and similar devices, e.g. iPad, iPhone, Android phone, Android tablet, etc.
    • No requirements

End-users self-configure their devices by following the automated device registration process. The workflow varies slightly depending on the device operating system:

  • Apple iOS/macOS: Uses over-the-air (OTA) provisioning. Users single sign-on, install the BHRSD CA certificate, and install the Wi-Fi network profile with certificates in the device Settings.
  • Android: Users single sign-on, and are prompted to download the Quick Connect app, which handles the secure installation of certificates and Wi-Fi network profiles.
  • Windows: The Quick Connect web application is built-in. Users single sign-on, and the browser-based client automatically installs the root/device certificates and configures the Wi-Fi network profile.

After the device is successfully provisioned, it can join the secure BHRSD Wi-Fi network using the new, device-specific certificate.
