The Berkshire Hills Regional School District was formed in 1967. The three towns of Stockbridge, West Stockbridge and Great Barrington form a regional school district composed of Muddy Brook Regional Elementary School (grades PreK-4 built in 2005), Monument Valley Regional Middle School (grades 5-8 built in 2005), and Monument Mountain Regional High School (grades 9-12 comprehensive high school built in 1967).

The Berkshire Hills area is known around the world for its beauty, charm, cultural sophistication and the contributions its residents have made to the arts and politics of this country.

It is the outdoor lover's paradise, with activities that range from simple walks through the blazing colors of the fall woods to downhill and cross-country skiing, hunting and fishing, boating and canoeing.

The Berkshire area also has a wealth of cultural and art attractions. Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is a must for the music lover. The Berkshire Music Festival in Stockbridge and the Williamstown Summer Theater offer excellent stage performances. The new Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown house world-renowned galleries. The area is also known for Chesterwood (home of the Lincoln Memorial Sculptor, Daniel Chester French), The Berkshire Botanical Gardens, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, and Shakespeare & Co.

Those interested in history will delight in investigating everything from the studios of well-known local writers and artists including Bryant, Sedgewick, Melville, Hawthorne, Wharton, and Rockwell, to the homes of political activists W.E. B. Dubois and Susan B. Anthony. The over one hundred "cottages", stately mansions built at the turn of the century, are additional features of the area. Pre- and post- revolutionary historical personages and sites abound in the Berkshires. The home of Jonathan Edwards, the first missionary to the Stockbridge Indians; Shaker Village, numerous covered bridges, Burgoyne's pass, the locale of Shay's Rebellion, The Albert Schweitzer center and several archeological digs await the interested scholar and casual visitor alike. The Berkshires abound in cultural, historical and natural beauty.
