Attendance and Tardiness Procedures:

Regular and timely school attendance is important to the learning process and establishes good work habits. Because the school day is busy and filled with learning experiences, it is important to start the day on schedule with a little social time and announcements to give the students a relaxed and informed start to the day.

In order to minimize tardiness at the Middle School, we have instituted the following procedure. As explained in your Parent/Student Handbook, p. 14, for every three times a student is tardy, he/she is assigned an afternoon of detention. Detention takes place from 2:45 – 3:30 P.M. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When the third tardy has taken place, we  notify the student and place a phone call to the parent stating the day the student is assigned detention. We give parents/guardians at least a day of warning before assigning the detention. Parents/guardians are responsible for picking up students following detention. Students are dismissed to the front of the school building for pick up at the circle. Detentions will be assigned starting the week of Sept. 18.

We recognize the hardship this consequence creates for parents/guardians, and ask for your cooperation and understanding. Students are tardy if they arrive at school any time after 7:50 A.M. Doctor’s appointments are the only excused tardies. We understand that the flat tire or oversleeping can happen on occasion, so each student has one free tardy per term. Because our students do not drive themselves to school, it is often not their fault that they are late. We hope that you will be able to work out using busses or a better system for arriving on time. We stress to the students that it is their responsibility to be on time to school and to classes throughout the day.

Please take note of the changes in the attendance policy as described on pages 22 and 23 in the Parent/Student Handbook. We ask for your cooperation adhering to this policy and for your understanding of the procedures. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Jane Furey, Principal or Chris Congdon, Assistant Principal.
